product-18-f8-8d-6609126b126dc3632ad4a5465d1) Compare both locks to verify that they're the same size before proceeding. A difference in sizes will require the use of a hole bit to drill out the hole for the keyed deadbolt once the front Door Lock is removed.
2) Open the front door lock so that it's not engaged in the locked position, and open the door.
3) Position the door so that you can unscrew the two screws from the inside of the front door lock using the screwdriver with one hand while holding your other hand on the outside to catch the front door lock plate. If this is cumbersome, have someone help.

4) Pull the front door lock out of the hole carefully and set the lock and screws aside. Place them in a plastic bag together, as you can use them again elsewhere.
5) Compare the strike plates for the door and doorframe to the keyed deadbolt's strike plates. If they're the same, you don't need to replace the strike plates unless they're damaged or you prefer adding new strike plates. To remove the strike plates from both the doorframe and door, remove the two screws, pull them away from the door and remove the plates.
6) Install the keyed deadbolt by setting the lock into place with the latch facing inward. Check the deadbolt by turning the latch to verify that it works in the old holes as you hold it in place. If you notice that the deadbolt hangs up a bit, remove the lock and use the wood chisel to remove some of the extra wood on the side of the door through which the deadbolt passes.
7) Verify that the keyed deadbolt slides easily into place by inserting the lock into the hole, holding it in place and turning the latch back and forth several times after chiseling. Remove the deadbolt, lubricate the moving parts with the metal lubricant, then reinsert it into the hole.
8) Position the front key plate onto the front of the door. Because the front face plate has two cylinders to accept the screws, you must line the cylinder's up with the screw holes and screws on the deadbolt from the inside. This sometimes takes a few adjustments or may require that you install both pieces simultaneously because they fit together like a puzzle. If one or the other of the pieces doesn't fit flush against the door when you hold it in place, readjust it until they do.

9) Manually insert the screws through the holes on the inside of the door into the threaded cylinders of the front keyed face plate until you feel them engage. Gently screw them in with the screwdriver so that you don't strip the threads. Tighten the screws thoroughly, but don't overtighten.
